Florida Everglades Facts for Best Photos Opportunities

You may have examined Florida facts, but without Florida Everglades facts, your photo collection won't be complete. Visitors often think of the Everglades when they are traveling to Florida and if you have flown into Miami, you have likely seen the Everglades below you as you prepared to land in Miami or Fort Lauderdale or Fort Myers.

When vacationing with family and friends in Florida, many of your photos will have people in them, but for some of the most unique wildlife and scenic pictures in Florida welcome to the Everglades and the area referred to as the 10,000 islands. Here you may encounter porpoises rolling or jumping in the bay, gentle manatees swimming in water so clear you can watch them feeding, and wild migratory and native birds sitting among lush tropical plants or picking creatures out of their shells on the beach. With over 600 species of birds and animals it is a photographer’s and eco-conscious visitor’s paradise.

Only a few roads lead into the Florida Everglades. U.S. highways 27 (eastern area) and 41 (western area) are the two main routes into the Everglades and along these routes you will find numerous small towns and parks surrounding the Everglades that give you a glimpse of the wildlife. Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Shark Valley are only a few.

When looking at Florida Everglades facts, be sure to investigate the unique opportunities for viewing alligators, herons, egrets and other native Florida birds or butterflies in their natural habitat. Airboat rides are a fun and exciting way to see the Everglades. From Orlando to Miami, you will find a wide variety of airboat rides available depending upon how far off the beaten path you wish to travel.

Florida Everglades facts tell us that certain times of the year are better to take advantage of the best photo opportunities, because of migratory bird patterns. Actually, the great weather in Florida makes almost any time of year a great time to visit but most prefer the months of October through April, the most with lower temperatures and fewer mosquitoes. The spring months offer more color and wildlife activity and it is important to remember that alligators, though dangerous and unpredictable anytime, tend to be more sluggish during the cooler months.

Florida Everglades Camping

For the truly adventuresome, there are campgrounds actually located in the Everglades offering some of the finest photo opportunities in Florida. Since there aren't many hotel options in the immediate area, if you have a tent, RV or pop-up camper these campgrounds are great way to enjoy nature firsthand.

Limited on time? No problem, you can visit the Florida Everglades National Park for the day and still find many great photo opportunities while observing the best swamp wildlife environment you will find in North America.

Options for enjoying the swampland include boat cruising, swamp tours at the Shark Valley entrance to the park and the airboat rides or towers overlooking the wetland conservation areas. Of course, don't be surprised if you spot an alligator sunning on the sidewalk while you are waiting on your tour bus.
