Florida Photos Create Fantastic Memories
Let's begin with Florida photos of one of my favorite and most scenic areas the Everglades National Park. Outdoor photography oportunities abound both in and around the park. The year was 1959 when my family moved from Roanoke, Virginia to southern Florida. As we drove through the Everglades I was struck by the unbridled beauty of the wilderness. It seemed that vultures were perched on every rotted fence post waiting for an easy meal. Just the year before (1958) I saw the movie "Wind Across the Everglades" starring Burl Ives and filmed partially in the park and as a 12 year old boy I could imagine myself exploring the swamps and swimming with the gators (hey, I was only 12). Alligator Alley (I-75 today) didn't have fences in those days. I wish I had a good camera and understood the value of photography back then. Today I only take Alligator Alley when I'm in a hurry to get to/from the Miami or Ft. Lauderdale areas.
Over the years I have had occassion to return to the Everglades many times and am still fascinated by the fact that one can still reach out and touch nature as it has been for millions of years. Of course I long ago lost any desire to swim with the gators (I'm not sure just when brain cells actually come to
life but I suspect it to be around age 36). My wife Kathy and I frequent the Big Cypress area as well as Everglades City, Chokoloskee and numerous other surrounding communities.
Historical Everglades
Historically the Everglades has been home to the Miccosukee and Seminole Indians tribes as well as early Florida settlers. These tribal members today are very much into the preservation of the area and offer guided tours for your environmental and educational enjoyment. Florida Fish and Wildlife also offers
tours out of Everglades City.
To get to your outdoor photography site and capture your own Florida photos I recommend you take Hwy 41 from Naples and head south toward Miami. Whether you are seeking outdoor photography opportunities or just want to enjoy a more relaxing and scenic drive this is the route to take. Whatever your reason I
hope you thoroughly enjoy the Everglades as much as I do.
