From Fishing to Football and Jai Alai, Florida Promotes Your Sport
Florida sports attract millions of visitors from all over the world all year long. No matter whether your excitement includes college or pro games, or maybe
just an opportunity to catch that trophy bass or tarpon, this sub-tropical area has it all. So don your jerseys, slip into your sandals and head for the Sunshine State for your next round of sporting fun in the sun.
Without a doubt fishing is the most popular activity in the Sunshine State. But I have already written several pages about this award winning activity and will continue to expand upon that area frequently. This section is about the many other adventurous opportunities awaiting your discovery.
Grab Your Clubs and Play the Greens of Paradise
If fishing is the most popular activity then golfing must be a close second. With more than 300 golf courses throughout the state you should be able to find a Tee Time suitable for your vacationing schedule and budget. So polish your clubs and let Mario at
www.my-florida-golf.com
direct you to one or more of the many courses designed and built by such golfing greats as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Johnes and others. Mario at www.my-florida-golf.com (link) is your source for up-to-date information on the most popular, and not so well known courses broken down by unique regions for your convenience.
Snorkeling and scuba diving - Fin and Mask
Another extremely popular Florida sport is scuba diving or snorkeling and probably the two most popular areas are
Crystal River
located in the west central (Gulf Coast) area of the state about an hour and a half drive northwest of Tampa and the
Key Islands
located south of Miami. Depending on the time of year Crystal River and Homossassa Springs are where you will likely be able to view large congregations of the gentle, slow moving West Indian Manatee ambling docilely in the river or along the shoreline. There are literally hundreds of lakes, rivers and coastal sites waiting for your exploration from the Panhandle in the north to Key West, the southern-most key island. For your own safety it is highly recommended that you become
PADI
cerified before you attempt scuba diving.
High-Speeding Vacation Excitement Thrives in the Sunshine
When you need a break from the water maybe your Florida Sport is automobile racing. Here again the Sunshine State excels with variety and year-round excitement. Just thinking about it I can hear the roar of the engines and smell the burning rubber.
NASCAR
is based in Daytona with tracks in Daytona and Homestead.
If you have a high performance car of your own and would like to participate in a

Fast and Furious Jai-Alai
One Florida event characterized by its fast playing pace is Jai-Alai (pronounced Hie Lie), a Basque term meaning "Merry Festival". Jai-Alai is played with a 125g ball (or pelota) covered with parchment skin and when in play they have been clocked traveling faster than 180 mph. Known as the "world's fastest ball game!" it was imported from the Basque region of Spain into Cuba in 1898,then introduced as a professional game at the Miami Fronton in 1928. This is a game that requires a combination of skill, speed and acrobatics. For additional information and game schedules click on any of the links below. Three very popular areas for discovering Jai Alai excitement are
Dania,
Orlando,
and
Miami.
