Florida Travel News

Keeping up with upcoming events in Florida can be a difficult task. With Florida travel news, travelers benefit from knowing what events are being held and whether or not these can be something worth traveling to. Small towns give you the pleasures of getting to know a state with a different sense of depth while leaving out the burden of having thousands of other tourists around with businesses competing for their money.

Some noteworthy Florida news includes Mount Dora, a cozy little town known for its antiques and family owned restaurants. It also boasts a flea market voted as one of the ten best in the entire United States. On the 3rd weekend of each November, January and February it holds its antique extravaganza, the largest antiques fair in the south with around 1500 vendors. Another popular annual attraction in this little town is the Mt. Dora art festival held in early February attracting nearly 300 artists. Visitors can easily plan and make reservations accordingly. Remember to ask your hotel about upcoming events or better yet check them out on the internet.

Another great little Florida town and one of my all time favorites is Tarpon Springs with the largest concentration of Greek Americans in the United States. This Greek community hosts the largest Greek American Epiphany celebration in the U.S. every January 6 with the blessing of the waters and the boats. If you enjoy elaborate religious ceremonies you won’t want to miss this Florida Travel event related to the Greek Orthodox Church. Once known as the “Sponge Capital” of the world the sponge docks today continue to attract millions of visitors annually. Plus if you are looking for a great park for your family then Fred Howard Park is a must visit with fishing, sunbathing, beaches and picnic facilities.

Look a little further into the calendar and the strawberry lovers in your family will discover that Plant City, Florida holds a Strawberry Festival in the late-winter days, normally being the end of February or early March. Not hungry for strawberries or festival crowds then how about checking out Dinosaur World with its free parking and low admission fee?

When talking about the road less traveled check out Brooksville, Florida. This little town with beautiful and elegant plantation homes worth many tourist pictures is also home to something very unique. Brooksville is home to Rogers’ Christmas House and village with five southern homes arranged to form a traditional Christmas village setting and looking as if they are right out of a Christmas story book. Decorated with spirit all year round along cobble stone covered streets, it is truly worthy of a visit from Santa himself.

If you are into Florida’s Native American history Brooksville also has a Native American Outpost in a log cabin. Other area events include monthly live music performances and an antique car show.

Maybe you would like for Florida travel news to point you in the direction of something more like Halloween year round but without the pumpkins and witches. The place for you is the little town of Cassadaga in central Florida just a little north of Orlando which offers beautiful sight seeing and perhaps a different type of tourism, one that doesn't become crowded unless of course they all decide to visit on All Saints eve.

Known for out of the ordinary attractions of a different king, Cassadaga has been declared the “Psychic Capital” of Florida with camps for mediums and spiritualists to communicate with the other world. So if you are a medium or would like to contact a medium, then this is the place where a lot of the paranormal action is professed to be happening.

Florida travel news will continue researching the hundreds of small towns throughout the state to bring tid-bits of information to travelers for unique experiences that otherwise may have been missed. Theme parks are great but there is far more to Florida than Miami and Orlando. So pack your shorts and sandals, head for this beautiful and exciting southern state and for a more complete vacation experience “Think Outside the Mouse.”

Vacationers, keeping track of Florida travel news is essential so be sure to bookmark and return to this site frequently for event updates and photography opportunities.
