Travel to Florida Woodlands

When planning your Florida journey don’t forget to take in the natural wonderlands of our State Forests. They are truly remarkable and some will say “breathtaking”. Florida visitors are often surprised and amazed when learning that nearly half of the Sunshine State is covered in forestation.

Forests provide tremendous value to the state’s economy, supplying over 130,000 jobs annually. Long recognized as having one of the finest and most diversified state forest systems in the United States, Florida’s State Forests offer enormous opportunities for travelers to experience an array of natural, recreational and cultural phenomena.

Big Gum Swamp Wilderness located in the Osceola National Forest is just one of the many Florida Natural Treasures. Many visitors find the 13,600 acres of boggy terrain with its warm and humid climatic conditions and lack of roads great for hunting. Dense vegetation makes hiking and other recreational uses extremely challenging.

Tate’s Hell State Forest located near Carrabelle in the panhandle is an important 202,437 acre hydrologic area supplying fresh water into the Apalachicola Bay. With more than 150 miles of designated trails on existing forest roads visitors can enjoy riding all-terrain vehicles while encountering an array of ecosystems such as blackwater rivers, cypress swamps and pine flatwoods as well as numerous species of wildlife.
